It’s almost hard to believe. Did you know convicted felon Donald Trump was in Elissa Slotkin’s congressional district just last Tuesday. And that he’s coming to Michigan again today (Aug. 26) and again on Thursday (Aug. 28) And Trump’s mini-me Veep choice J.D. Vance is here tomorrow (Aug. 27).
In a nine-day stretch, Trump is making his 7th, 8th, and 9th visit to Michigan since he launched his 2024 campaign for President. Vance has come to Michigan four times since he joined the ticket.
It could not be more obvious that the Trump/Vance campaign and their big-money donors are ramping up their investment in Michigan. Big time. And at this point, it’s pretty unprecedented. Learn where the mute button is located on your TV remote because our local channels are going to be inundated with Trump’s BS.
But it’s not hard to see why the Trump/Vance campaign and Republicans are focusing their efforts here.
They see the polling showing a close race between Trump and Vice President Harris. They see the electoral forecasts that show that Michigan is very likely to be the tipping point state. They have looked at the composition of the U.S. Senate and the states with contested elections this year and believe that if they win the open seat in Michigan, they will flip the U.S. Senate.
So, with the stakes of this race being as high as they are, we’ve got to do everything we can to elect a government that fights for us.
Every voter has a choice to make. Are they going to support Donald Trump and J.D. Vance’s extreme Project 2025 agenda that will drag us backward and attack our rights?
Or will they send Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz to the White House to protect our fundamental freedoms, build an economy that works for everyone, and lower costs for working families?
While we’re laser-focused on electing Vice President Harris and Governor Walz as our next president and vice president of the United States, our work doesn’t stop at the top of the ticket. We’re equally as focused on ensuring they have the congressional majorities they need to pursue their forward-looking agenda. That means electing Elissa Slotkin to the U.S. Senate and Callie Barr to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Michiganders know well the results that can be achieved when voters elect Democrats to make real progress. In 2022, millions of our fellow citizens went to the ballot box to reelect Governor Whitmer and deliver Democrats full control of the state legislature — marking the first time Democrats have enjoyed a full trifecta in government since 1983.
And Democrats went straight to work. In less than two years, we’ve been able to protect abortion rights, lower costs for working families, invest in our children’s future, build an economy that works for everyone, and so much more.
Now imagine what President Harris and Vice President Walz could accomplish with majorities in the Senate and House. That’s why winning up and down the ballot in November is so important.
In closing her unifying and powerful acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, Kamala Harris said, “We are the heirs to the greatest democracy in the history of the world. And on behalf of our children and our grandchildren and all those who sacrificed so dearly for our freedom and liberty, we must be worthy of this moment.
“It is now our turn to do what generations before us have done, guided by optimism and faith: to fight for this country we love, to fight for the ideals we cherish, and to uphold the awesome responsibility that comes with the greatest privilege on Earth — the privilege and pride of being an American.
“So, let’s get out there, let’s fight for it. Let’s get out there, let’s vote for it. And together, let us write the next great chapter in the most extraordinary story ever told.”
