Unavailable and unaffordable childcare is terrible for hard-working families in Michigan, especially in Michigan’s 1st Congressional District. It is causing high employee absence rates, turnover, postponement of education and training, reduced hours, and, ultimately, parents leaving the workforce. Working families deserve relief.
This issue matters for all of us. By one estimate, Michigan is losing out on an estimated $2.88 billion in annual economic activity, including $576 million in direct revenue impact, as a result of inaccessible, unaffordable childcare.
And while Rep. Jack Bergman has been using his position to benefit himself, like reimbursing $44,000 in taxpayer dollars for his own food and lodging, many families in our communities struggle to make ends meet.
It’s clear: Bergman is more concerned with his comfort than with representing the people of Upper and Northern Michigan. We deserve better.
Affordable childcare is essential for our families and our economy. It allows parents to work, pursue education, and contribute to our communities. When childcare is out of reach, it holds us all back.
Callie Barr is running for Congress because she is committed to addressing the concerns of our communities and ensuring that every family has the support they need to thrive.
As a mom and a candidate for Congress, Callie Barr knows firsthand the challenges of finding affordable childcare. In fact, most of her student loans are the result of costs associated with finding childcare for her two girls. It's an issue that affects families across Michigan, and it's one we can't afford to ignore.
In the face of federal inaction, investing additional state dollars in childcare is a smart, commonsense choice for Michigan. It would result in better outcomes for families and workers, brighter futures for our state’s kids and a stronger state for everyone.
Callie Barr is committed to helping families and kids in Congress. We need policies that support working families, make quality childcare accessible, and invest in our children's future.
This includes access to early childhood education and affordable childcare. Making childcare more affordable for families and ensuring providers have stable incomes will help parents remain in the workforce, benefiting our state’s economy, while also helping to bring down Michigan’s child poverty rate and provide our earliest learners with access to high-quality care.
And Callie knows parents also play a vital role in their child’s well-being and parental involvement is the cornerstone to any student’s success. As a member of Congress, Callie will listen to teachers, parents, and students and make decisions based on what they know is best for our local communities.
Callie Barr is the better choice for the Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan. Elect Callie Barr to Congress.
