The statewide ballot proposal petitioning process is governed by Michigan Election Law and overseen by the Secretary of State and Board of State Canvassers.
Once a petition is filed with the Secretary of State, signatures are subjected to a verification process and the Board of State Canvassers determines whether the petition contains enough valid signatures to qualify for placement on the ballot.
According to the Board of State Canvassers, no citizen-led proposals have qualified for the 2024 November ballot. All of the initiatives proposed either missed the Secretary of State filing deadlines for landing a spot of the ballot or were blocked by the courts. It will be the first election since 2016 without any statewide ballot proposals for voters to consider.
